Sonnet by Kristi Porter

Sonnet was my first sweater.  (Okay, there was another first, but it's unwearable.)   It's a free pattern on knitty.com by Kristi Porter.   The pattern is knit sideways; you start at the left front and knit around the body to the right front.  My initial criticism of this pattern was harsh; however, now that I've been knitting for a year, I can look at the pattern with a more experienced eye and realize that if I were to knit this again (and I just might), I would change things. For one thing, the yarn I used, Lion Brand Woolease was chosen for it's inexpensiveness, as I'd never knit something so large and didn't want to ruin expensive yarn with my beginner efforts.  However, it contributed to my dissatisfaction with the finished sweater because of it's stretchiness.  The neckline of the sweater is too low-cut and falls off of my shoulders.  The yarn exacerbates this problem.  If I were to knit this again, I'd raise up the neckline a few inches, and possibly tinker with the front box stitch inserts in order to increase the width of the shoulder.  I wear this sweater at home, but it's too revealing for work.  I had fun picking out the buttons, though.
